Learn the essentials of borosilicate lampworking in a safe, hands-on environment. Each lesson introduces torch use, shaping techniques, and step-by-step guidance as you create pendants or colorful ornaments to take home. You’ll also keep any demo pieces made by your instructor.
For your protection, all students must wear clothing made from natural fibers, such as cotton, to reduce the risk of burns. Closed-toe shoes are required at all times, and long sleeves are recommended for added safety. If you have long hair, it must be securely tied back before beginning your lesson to prevent accidents around the torch.
Lampworking produces a harmful light spectrum that can damage your eyes without proper protection. For students who normally wear glasses, we recommend using contact lenses during class whenever possible. If that isn’t an option, we provide approved alternatives such as clip-on flip-down filters or “mad scientist” style safety glasses designed specifically for lampworking.
Rings, watches, and other jewelry can conduct heat and cause injury when working near an open flame. For your safety, we strongly advise removing all jewelry before your lesson. If you must wear a piece, please let your instructor know, but we recommend avoiding it unless absolutely necessary.
